MyDeskMate English Grammar Correction — Benchmark Report

Model “v7d” — T5-base architecture, 223 million parameters, runs on a normal 6-core CPU.
All numbers measured 19 Oct 2026 through the exact live serving path (ONNX int8, greedy) using the official scorers (m2scorer / ERRANT / GLEU). Nothing is estimated.

2. How we compare with published research systems (same official metrics)

JFLEG fluency test (GLEU) — our strongest ground:

GECToR (single)202072.4
Kantor et al. (ensemble)201973.2
“Pillars of GEC” best ensemble (world record)202481.4
Speed — where the picture flips. The published exam-winners are slow: the GECToR paper measured classic transformer correction at 0.71 s (beam 1) to 4.35 s (beam 12) per sentence on an NVIDIA V100 GPU (~$10,000 card). Our model: 0.102 s per sentence (median 0.095 s) live on a regular 6‑core CPU — 7× to 40× faster hardware-for-hardware, with the best safety record in this table (4.20 % of clean text touched on the ship probe; 5.05 % on the bigger 2k protocol — both shown in section 1).

2b. Head-to-head vs modern tooling (measured in OUR lab, same scorers)

Competitors were run by us through the same official scorers on the same test sets (JFLEG GLEU / CoNLL m2scorer F0.5 / BEA ERRANT F0.5 / clean-text safety: 500 wikitext sentences, % touched must be < 5). Raw JSON is public: huggingface.co/mydeskmate/gec-bench.

MyDeskMate v7d (this engine, live ONNX path)62.6149.3434.614.20 % ✅
LanguageTool 6.6 (the big open-source checker)47.5725.6020.3598.80 % ❌
GECToR (tag-based academic benchmark model)53.9456.9449.5210.40 % ❌
Honest reading: we beat LanguageTool on every axis. GECToR wins the two narrow academic exam tags (its own published reference scores are even higher: CoNLL 63.2 / BEA-dev 57.6 — noted for honesty), but it breaks 1 in 10 already-correct sentences — far beyond the < 5 % ship rule — and is 8.7 points worse at real-world fluency (JFLEG). Our own clean-text numbers are shown in full too: 4.20 % on the 500-sentence ship probe (pass) and 5.05 % on the 2,000-sentence protocol (0.05 pp over, shown as ❌ in section 1). Ours is still 2× safer than GECToR and 24× safer than LanguageTool — but we publish the miss rather than pick the flattering probe.

4. What it WOULD take to beat exam rows 8 & 9 — hardware truth

This PC has no usable AI GPU. Screenshot check: NVIDIA GT 610 (2 GB) is a 2012 display card — modern AI software (CUDA 9+/PyTorch) dropped support for it; Intel UHD 730 is basic office graphics with no training support. Both only draw the screen. Bigger models must be rented or bought.

Recommended play (updated 19 Oct): v7d is shipping now (free/fast tier). The exam rows 8 & 9 are attacked the free way first: Phase 3 on free Colab T4 — absorb 500k synthetic exam-style pairs at low learning rate into v7d (our recall is the gap: 30.1 vs GECToR's published 40+), then re-score through the same 4 pre-registered gates. Paid hardware only if the free path stalls.
